The Story So Far
After a break from promoting, we decided it was time to start a new night, we suggested using our old venue Winnington Rec in Northwich which we’d used back in the late 90’s running monthly rare soul nights. After a few discussions regarding what we wanted to achieve from the new night and the kind of dj’s we wanted to use, a date was agreed, and the dj’s were booked for the night, inc Andy Killick, Arthur Fenn, Rob Lloyd, Maria Willingham and Paul Cross. The date was Saturday 14th October 2006. A small but very appreciative crowd turned out for a great night with the dj’s doing sterling work. The night was deemed a success and it was time to look toward putting future events on. Unfortunately the room at Winnington had been double booked and therefore our next date was put on hold.
As time went by we felt that an alternative venue was needed,  after various discussions the name of the Warrens Club in Holmes Chapel came up, the club had come to our attention after Col Kidson, Phil Richards and Woody had used it a couple of years earlier. Contact was made and an agreement in principle to hold a soul night there.  We decided to run the event bi monthly due to the amount of other events on at the present time.

The Dollar was born

A great flyer design, was used which were to become as much of a talking point as the event ‘the dollar bill flyers’ and a new name United Sound of Soul

The first night took place on Saturday 24th March 2007 8pm – 2am, dj’s were Mick H, Dave Welding, Jumpin Joan and Maria Willingham, another cracking night to follow on from Winnington, with between 50-60 coming through the door. Yet again superb sounds were played by all the dj’s with the policy being that they are given a free hand to play what they want. (this is still the policy to this day)

The feedback on the night was very positive, The dates were then booked for the rest of the year and into 2008 taking us to the first anniversary.  The USOS grew from strength to strength, we us booking all our dates upto the end of 2009. We then had our first night of 2009 on Saturday January 17th with a great turn out(best to date)and great music.

The week after the January event, we received a letter from the club demanding that we pay to have the floor deep cleaned(£250) and was told we must take out Public Liability Insurance as they use the dancefloor for aerobics etc in the week. A decision was made that it was time to move on to a better venue

Enter The Oakley in Brewood just outside Wolverhampton, Contact was made with the manager and we went to see the venue and paid a deposit so we could use it for our 2nd Anniversary on March 28th. Dj’s had been booked at the end of 2008 so the advertising began, just over 2 weeks before the event was due to take place confirmation was recieved that the club had ceased trading. Panic!!!, luckily Martyn’s sister knew the manager of The Premier Suite in Cannock, the room was available, We contacted all dj’s and advertised that fact that the venue had changed yet again. After all the hassle and worry over venues we need not have worried so much as the turn out was the best to date,

we are now Moving to a new Venue in Blackheath, Nr Dudley called Deja Vu, this is a brilliant little venue with its own car park, and two room
Please see our events page for further information, and future dates.

United Sound of Soul team, Sharon, Kevin and Martyn would like to thank, All our friends and supporters of the club.
